Starting the journey South.

After a little discussion we decided to start heading south as time is running out, or it seems that way and we still have a lots of places to visit before we get back to LA. We will be retracing our steps for the first couple of days so if we are lucky it might be fine and we will see what we missed on the way up.

We headed off to Tok. Stopped at Santas house just out of Fairbanks which was a non event really.

Arrived at Tok about 5.30. Back at Young's Motel and tea at  Fast Eddies again.

Spent the evening trying toget a bit of a plan. Going to be some big days. Maree not to keen on those and keeps mentioning "catching a bus", but I don't think she really means it

Next morning as we were about to leave Marty's bikes electrics packed a sad and he had to dismantle the light unit and do some repairs. Was all good to go by 11 so we decided to have our 3rd meal in Fast Eddies before we left. We missed the breakfast menu by 4 minutes!! Was nice to not be riding in the rain and to actually see the scenery.

We stopped at Border Lodge for gas and my bike refused to start. Dead as a door post. Marty eventually found the problem was the ignition switch. He got it going and off we went but it kept cutting out so I stopped. Marty got a cable tie and tied the wires into a position where the switch worked and touch wood it's been ok ever since but looks like we need to get a new switch unit somewhere along the way. We stopped for a coffee in Destruction Bay and dscovered we had changed time zones and it was now 7pm instead of 6pm so we had tea. The ride from Destruction Bay to Haines Junction was stunning. I should have stopped and taken more photos but with my dickey switch I decided against it.
Never mind we got to see the mountains at Haines Junction this time around.

We had hopes of a good days travel but sadly it was not to be. We had stopped about 25km from Whitehorse and my bike refused to start. Marty hot wired it so we could carry on. Maree was very disappointed when we by passed Whitehorse town and took the expressway to the garage. Not the breakfast choice she was after so she had to settle for a sandwich and a coffee. Marty got stuck into pulling my bike apart so he coukd take the ignition switch out. He then headed into Whitehorse, we thought to get a soldering iron but no he went in search of someone who could do the soldering. Found a guy at the Napa shop but he'd just gone to lunch. 1.5 hrs later he returned and did the soldering. Wasn't plan sailing when Marty got back. Took several attempts to get the bloody thing to work before reassembling the bike. He tested it several times and it was all good so we loaded up and got set to go. I get on the bike, turn the switch and nothing. Some choice words were said I can tell you. Unloaded the bike hot wired it and left. 6hrs of mucking around and no further ahead but Marty is getting very quick at removing the ignition switch.

We headed for Teslin a mere 100 miles down the road. I told Marty that if he and Maree stopped so she could have a stretch I was going to keep going. Marty kept going as well and Maree arrived not a very happy camper with a numb bum,  infact her first comnment off the bike was "what happened to the stop". Some days motorcycling can be rough.

Marty was up early and got the bits he needed from the garage and constructed my new switch system. We are rolling again. We discussed our plan of attack and have decided to go down the Stewart Casier Highway as it is a very scenic route and less traffic. Marty rang the BMW shop in Calgary and apart from my switch they have all the parts needed to give the bikes a birthday. They are going to try and get the switch in. We had anothe very cruisey day which makes it way nicer travelling for Maree.

Arrived at Watson Lake about 3pm, stopped and looked at the forest of signs. Pity we didnt bring one with us.

We headed to the info centre to get a map so we could plan the trip a bit and book some accomodation at Dease Lake. We were unable to get accomodation anywhere so have ended up staying in Watson Lake. Not a bad hotel. The chinese restaraunt was very nice. Had a lovely meal. Our faith in chinese cuisine has been restored.
